Write and call the Premier and your MPP!

There is much concern about the Ontario Government’s legislation of Bills 5 and 17, and rightly so. For example,

  • Bill 5, also known as the “Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act”, has environmental critics, Indigenous groups, and municipalities worried.  For example, Bill 5 proposes special economic zones where the Premier and Cabinet could avoid environmental assessments, and proceed with more urban sprawl on farmland and other destructive projects such as superhighway 413.
  • Bill 17, the “Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act”, seeks to make building new homes easier - but affordability will remain an issue.  In Canada, affordable housing refers to living spaces that are financially accessible to people with a median household income ($68,400).  Bill 17 will not solve homelessness, and do little to offset the desperate need for affordable housing.

To better understand Bill 5 and the reaction from a number of critics, please visit CBC's news item Doug Ford's controversial Bill 5: Here's what you need to know , by Mike Crawley* and posted on May 28, 2025.

Silence is acquiescence!

Write and call the Premier and your MPP and tell them you are disappointed and upset that both bills were pushed through the legislature before proper consultation with environmental critics, Indigenous groups, municipalities, and other affected parties.  Remind them that they were elected to act in our best interests, protect the less fortunate and the environment, and support a just future.
