Summer Donations
Every summer the Cathedral adjusts the worship schedule in recognition that many are away at cottages, on vacation, or just wanting to be outdoors with family and friends. The outcome is that Cathedral attendance is lower than most of the rest of the year and that results in a significant drop in donations during the summer months. Why Does that Matter? The Cathedral's day-to-day operations do not stop. Lights are still on. Bishopsgate still needs to be looked after. The Cathedral Café is still in full operation. Staff are still being paid. Property improvements and care continue. Here's the good news!Donations can now be made through digital platforms, allowing parishioners to support your Cathedral from anywhere. Here are our top three options:
Note: For more details, please click on any of the highlighted text above. We ask that you please give this your prayerful consideration. If you need some help or have concerns or questions, please email Paula Esteves, our Donations Administrator. |

Cathedral CaféNo Longer Accepting Donations of Clothing Effective immediately the Cathedral Café will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF CLOTHING. Thank you for your generosity and support over the past years. After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to close the clothing room. In an attempt to reevaluate the clothing donation portion of the Cathedral Café program, it was found that the volume of donations, time to sort and organize, lack of consistent volunteers to manage, staff time to search for items and space constraints prohibits us from effectively distributing clothing. There are many other organizations that provide this service effectively. We will revisit the need in the fall and possibly target requests (eg. Coats). If you have clothing donations, they can be taken to: Eva Rothwell Centre – 460 Wentworth St. North Venture Centre (Good Shepherd) – 155 Cannon St. East Living Rock – 30 Wilson St. Helping Hands – 669 Barton St. East St. Vincent De Paul – 429 Barton St. East As indicated, we will communicate with you on targeted needs of the guests of the Cathedral Café. Please continue to keep the Cathedral Café and guests in your prayers. With continued thanks, Kerry Lubrick on behalf of the Cathedral Café Operations Committee |

Christmas CardsHelp Wanted Since about 2007, Sandy Darling has produced and sold Christmas cards with sales of $800 to $1,000 per year. This ministry has given cards at an affordable price of $1.25 each with Nativity scenes and the word “Christmas” in the greeting rather than the ubiquitous “Happy Holidays”. The beautiful cards provide visibility to the cathedral across many lands. We normally sell these at art crawls from September to November, the Sunday following each art crawl, and six Sundays from mid-November to the Sunday before Christmas. Sandy is seeking a person to help in the following tasks:
Please talk to Sandy if you wish to help this ministry to continue or e-mail darlinga@cogeco.ca. |

June's Action: Speak Out!Climate Justice Cathedral In 2024, the Government of Canada provided nearly $30 billion in direct subsidies and public financing to the oil and gas industry. Also in 2024, Canada's official greenhouse gas inventory showed that oil and gas production companies (largely U.S.-owned) was the only sector in the country to have increased its greenhouse gas emissions. These companies are demanding that Canadian taxpayers pay the bill for cleaning up the pollution they cause and building pipelines they won’t risk their own money on. Meanwhile, U.S. owners reap billions in profits while Canadians pay subsidies. Clearly this is unjustified and completely unacceptable. What can you do?Write and call the Prime Minister and your MP! Remind them they were elected to act in our best interests, and to protect the environment! Every step helps! For more details, we recommend that you take a few minutes to read the following articles:

The Nature+ Project in the Zimbabwe Eastern HighlandsAlongside Hope Today we’re highlighting an ongoing project in Zimbabwe. In 2023, the Nature+ project — funded by the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, the Government of Canada, Alongside Hope and implemented by TSURO Trust — had just begun in central Chimanimani in the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands. TSURO Trust is a membership driven NGO based in 6 districts in Zimbabwe working to empower smallholder farmers in Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Public Environmental Health as well as Economic Strengthening. Villagers across seven communities welcomed TSURO Trust into their homes and shared their histories, their struggles and their hopes. Two years later, the stories from the village reveal an incredible transition, one shaped by new opportunities, unique challenges, and ultimately the resilience of communities determined to build a better future. In Tagarirwa Village, the community garden has been a major success. Buyers from Nhedziwa now come regularly, some placing large orders: “5,000 kg of cucumbers and 10,000 kg of butternuts,” Chimhaka recalls. These sales have helped families pay school fees. “I no longer see children roaming around during school days,” he says. In Keruta Village, Victoria Masimo, has learned to make compost and cook bokashi (compost) which has improved the health of her soil, and gender education has reduced domestic violence. Fish farming, beekeeping, and conservation farming have strengthened livelihoods, enabling families to pay school fees more reliably. And in Neznadonyi Village, Christopher Chimbarara, says, “Fish farming has become a source of emotional relief and income. His honey production has more than doubled — from 100 kg in 2023 to 250 kg in 2025 — and he now manages 19 beehives. “I am expecting to process my honey in a few months”. *Text includes extracts from the article written by Albizia Consultancy and published by Alongside Hope News on May 11, 2026 |

Planned GivingAnother Way to Give Planned Giving refers to a direction in your will to donate a gift from your estate to a charity or non-profit organization. The gift can be cash, property, securities, or a percentage of your estate and frequently has the benefit of reducing your estate's tax liability. This is a good opportunity to leave a legacy at no immediate cost to you. For more details please refer to the article What is Planned Giving? If you are interested in learning more about including Christ's Church Cathedral in your will, please contact our Parish Treasurer, J. Lefebvre, to discuss next steps. |
