Taizé Service

Taizé Service

A Balm to the Heart & Spirit - Sunday, May 31, 2026 1pm

All are very welcome to join us for the Taizé service on Sunday, May 31, at 1 pm.  At a time of great stress and anxiety for many people, the peaceful songs, contemplative readings, and candlelit prayers in Taizé worship are a balm to the heart and spirit.  You are invited, if you wish, to stay after coffee time and come up to sit in the circle of chairs near the piano. The service lasts about a half an hour.  If you have any questions about Taizé, please contact Bruce Burbidge.

Discovery Bible Study

Discovery Bible Study

Thursday 11:30am -12:15pm

Study the Bible in community through this drop-in participant-focused method of reading scripture together.  Discovery Bible Study is designed to meet the spiritual needs of our participants by considering what the biblical text tells us about God and human beings.

You'll find us in the nave on Thursdays.  All are welcome!

Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Another Way to Give

Planned Giving refers to a direction in your will to donate a gift from your estate to a charity or non-profit organization.  The gift can be cash, property, securities, or a percentage of your estate and frequently has the benefit of reducing your estate's tax liability.  This is a good opportunity to leave a legacy at no immediate cost to you.

For more details please refer to the article What is Planned Giving?

If you are interested in learning more about including Christ's Church Cathedral in your will, please contact our Parish Treasurer, J. Lefebvre, to discuss next steps.

Summer Donations

Summer Donations

Every summer the Cathedral adjusts the worship schedule in recognition that many are away at cottages, on vacation, or just wanting to be outdoors with family and friends.  The outcome is that Cathedral attendance is lower than most of the rest of the year and that results in a significant drop in donations during the summer months.

Why Does that Matter?

The Cathedral's day-to-day operations do not stop.  Lights are still on.  Bishopsgate still needs to be looked after.  The Cathedral Café is still in full operation.  Staff are still being paid.  Property improvements and care continue.

Here's the good news!

Donations can now be made through digital platforms, allowing parishioners to support your Cathedral from anywhere.  Here are our top three options:

  1. Pre-Authorized Giving:   A monthly or weekly donation transferred directly from your bank account to the Cathedral on the same day each month.
  2. e-Transfers:  If you already use online banking, you have the ability to donate funds from your account directly to the Cathedral.
  3. PayPal:  You have the option of using your debit or credit card to make a donation and you can also set up recurring donations and cancel them as you please.

Note:  For more details, please click on any of the highlighted text above.

We ask that you please give this your prayerful consideration.  If you need some help or have concerns or questions, please email Paula Esteves, our Donations Administrator.

Wake Up, Dead Man

Wake Up, Dead Man

Movie Night - Wednesday, June 10, 2026 7pm Spence Room.

Monica is hosting a viewing and discussion of Rian Johnson’s 2025 murder mystery - Wake Up, Dead Man.  Set in a Roman Catholic church and starring Daniel Craig, this cleverly plotted mystery includes humour and intrigue, and ponders faith vs. reason and fear vs. mercy.  Though it is the third movie in the Knives Out collection, there is no need to have watched the prior two films.  Simply come and enjoy!  Popcorn included!

For a brief preview, please click official trailer.

Please contact the church office at 905-527-1316 or email Monica to let her know you are coming.

Volunteers Needed for Art Crawl

Volunteers Needed for Art Crawl

Art Crawl is a wonderful way to engage with the community and to celebrate our beautiful Cathedral!   The success of Art Crawl at the Cathedral relies heavily on volunteers.  We are currently looking for volunteers for our May 8, 2026 opening night starting at 7pm.

  • We need enough volunteers to have 2 shifts, so each shift would be for 1.5 hours
  • Some volunteers will be responsible for hospitality, including greeting & guest support.
  • A second set of volunteers will be responsible for Cathedral tours and information.
  • Orientation and training are available for both positions.

If interested, please email Anne Kae or the Cathedral Office.

June's Action: Speak Out!

June's Action: Speak Out!

Climate Justice Cathedral

In 2024, the Government of Canada provided nearly $30 billion in direct subsidies and public financing to the oil and gas industry.  Also in 2024, Canada's official greenhouse gas inventory showed that oil and gas production companies (largely U.S.-owned) was the only sector in the country to have increased its greenhouse gas emissions.  These companies are demanding that Canadian taxpayers pay the bill for cleaning up the pollution they cause and building pipelines they won’t risk their own money on.

Meanwhile, U.S. owners reap billions in profits while Canadians pay subsidies.  Clearly this is unjustified and completely unacceptable.

What can you do?

Write and call the Prime Minister and your MP!

Remind them they were elected to act in our best interests, and to protect the environment!

Every step helps!

The Nature+ Project in the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands

The Nature+ Project in the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands

Alongside Hope

Today we’re highlighting an ongoing project in Zimbabwe.

In 2023, the Nature+ project — funded by the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, the Government of Canada, Alongside Hope and implemented by TSURO Trust — had just begun in central Chimanimani in the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands. TSURO Trust is a membership driven NGO based in 6 districts in Zimbabwe working to empower smallholder farmers in Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Public Environmental Health as well as Economic Strengthening. Villagers across seven communities welcomed TSURO Trust into their homes and shared their histories, their struggles and their hopes.

Two years later, the stories from the village reveal an incredible transition, one shaped by new opportunities, unique challenges, and ultimately the resilience of communities determined to build a better future.

In Tagarirwa Village, the community garden has been a major success. Buyers from Nhedziwa now come regularly, some placing large orders: “5,000 kg of cucumbers and 10,000 kg of butternuts,” Chimhaka recalls. These sales have helped families pay school fees. “I no longer see children roaming around during school days,” he says.

In Keruta Village, Victoria Masimo, has learned to make compost and cook bokashi (compost) which has improved the health of her soil, and gender education has reduced domestic violence. Fish farming, beekeeping, and conservation farming have strengthened livelihoods, enabling families to pay school fees more reliably.

And in Neznadonyi Village, Christopher Chimbarara, says, “Fish farming has become a source of emotional relief and income. His honey production has more than doubled — from 100 kg in 2023 to 250 kg in 2025 — and he now manages 19 beehives. “I am expecting to process my honey in a few months”.
