I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord. Whoever has faith in me shall have life, even though he die. And everyone who has life, and is committed to me in faith, shall not die for ever. John 11.25–26
As Christians, we are people of the resurrection, and at no point do we affirm the resurrection more joyfully than at the moment of death. As the canticle would say: "All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia."
Funerals are an expression of faith in our salvation, resurrection and eternal life. As such, we come to worship God and rejoice in the new life He has given us beyond death. Funerals also express the community support that is shown at a time of death as we pray, sing, laugh and cry together.
