The Psalm writer says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." In fact, music has been inseparable from worship for over 2000 years. When people gather to connect with transformative emotion it is through a soaring melody or a rhythmic movement.
The Music ministry is an important part of our identity here at the Cathedral. The whole building resonates with the sound of the organ, the brilliance of guest brass ensembles and the exuberance of the voice, both choral and congregational. Everyone has a voice and if you don't get all of the tunes and words right away, someone else sitting next to you does and you can lean into them.
More than that, we are a City Church and open our doors to our Hamilton neighbours. Open Doors experiences include arts displays, organ music and times where we sing meditatively and quietly for Taizé or Compline. You also won’t want to miss our regular Choral Evensongs, where we share the rich cathedral choral tradition of the Anglican Church. Our hymn tradition is almost 1500 years old, and Hymn Festivals celebrate this both in worship and at special afternoon occasions. Come join us and experience for yourself our vibrant hospitality! That is something to sing about!
Our Choir is going to resume activities as soon as possible in conformity with COVID-19 guidelines, so stay tuned for rehearsal times. If you would like to join us with your instrument, we would like to hear from you as well. In case you are a Music student at the University level, and you would like to give a recital here, we would love to hear from you!
The Cathedral has a Podcast and a YouTube channel where you can watch or listen to our services.
If you would like to get involved, please contact our Director of Music, Michael Bloss.
