A Canadian documentary, nominated this year for a Best Feature Documentary Oscar, Sugarcane is a stunning tribute to the resilience of Native people and their way of life. It is an epic cinematic portrait of a community during a moment of international reckoning. Filmed just after the discovery of unmarked graves at the residential school in Kamloops, Sugarcane follows the Indigenous community at White Lake, BC, as they investigate the history of the residential school in their community with resilience and hope of healing.
