Our beautiful Cathedral nave is not air conditioned and can get quite warm in the summer.  Parishioners are encouraged to dress comfortably on Sunday mornings.  Water will be available in the narthex during the service to help everyone stay hydrated.  When temperatures climb, please use your judgment about venturing out to attend services.  Services are web-cast live each Sunday  on the Cathedral's YouTube Channel, and are stored to be accessed later as well.

Art Crawl is a wonderful way to experience Hamilton's growing art scene, do some local shopping, enjoy some downtown eateries, and visit some historical city sites.  The Cathedral has participated in Art Crawl since its inception.  Our doors are open.  Please feel free to wander in and explore the art, history,  and the beauty of our building.   We're happy to welcome you and we are available to answer any questions you may have.

Join us in the community and in the Cathedral every 2nd Friday of the month from May 2026 to October 2026.

Art Crawl is a wonderful way to engage with the community and to celebrate our beautiful Cathedral!   The success of Art Crawl at the Cathedral relies heavily on volunteers.  

• We need enough volunteers to have 2 shifts, so each shift would be for 1.5 hours
• Some volunteers will be responsible for hospitality, including greeting & guest support.
• A second set of volunteers will be responsible for Cathedral tours and information. 
• Orientation and training are available for both positions.

In response to the tens of thousands affected by the Venezuelan earthquake, the Government of Canada announced on June 30th that it will match all donations made to the Humanitarian Coalition (HC) appeal between June 25 and July 14, up to $2 million.  The HC comprises 12 leading Canadian aid agencies including the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, of which Alongside Hope is a member.  Please visit the article by Janice Biehn for details.

We realize there are calls for help from all over the globe; it seems, on a monthly basis. We just want to bring this government initiative to your attention.  Should you elect to make a donation, please send your donation directly to Alongside Hope to ensure the funds are received by July 14.  Details for donations as follows:

Three young people and two environmental groups are asking the Federal Court to order Ottawa to develop a climate plan that achieves Canada's legally binding 2030 climate targets.  The case alleges the federal government, through recent climate policy changes, is violating Canada's climate accountability act. "We are the ones who will be facing and living with the consequences" said one of the youth.

Every summer the Cathedral adjusts the worship schedule in recognition that many are away at cottages, on vacation, or just wanting to be outdoors with family and friends.  The outcome is that Cathedral attendance is lower than most of the rest of the year and that results in a significant drop in donations during the summer months.

Why Does that Matter?

The Cathedral's day-to-day operations do not stop.  Lights are still on.  Bishopsgate still needs to be looked after.  The Cathedral Café is still in full operation.  Staff are still being paid.  Property improvements and care continue.

Here's the good news! 

Donations can now be made through digital platforms, allowing parishioners to support your Cathedral from anywhere.  Here are our top three options:

1. Pre-Authorized Giving:   A monthly or weekly donation transferred directly from your bank account to the Cathedral on the same day each month. 
2. e-Transfers:  If you already use online banking, you have the ability to donate funds from your account directly to the Cathedral. 
3. PayPal:  You have the option of using your debit or credit card to make a donation and you can also set up recurring donations and cancel them as you please.

Effective immediately the Cathedral Café will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF CLOTHING.

Thank you for your generosity and support over the past years.  After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to close the clothing room. In an attempt to reevaluate the clothing donation portion of the Cathedral Café program, it was found that the volume of donations, time to sort and organize, lack of consistent volunteers to manage, staff time to search for items and space constraints prohibits us from effectively distributing clothing.  There are many other organizations that provide this service effectively.  We will revisit the need in the fall and possibly target requests (eg. Coats).

Since about 2007, Sandy Darling has produced and sold Christmas cards with sales of $800 to $1,000 per year.  This ministry has given cards at an affordable price of $1.25 each with Nativity scenes and the word “Christmas”  in the greeting rather than the ubiquitous “Happy Holidays”.  The beautiful cards provide visibility to the cathedral across many lands.  We normally sell these at art crawls from September to November, the Sunday following each art crawl, and six Sundays from mid-November to the Sunday before Christmas.

Sandy is seeking a person to help in the following tasks:

• Setting up and taking down the display of cards.
• Selling the cards (a shared duty with Sandy).
• Learning how to deal with the printer to order and purchase cards (optional, but good learning experience).

Study the Bible in community through this drop-in participant-focused method of reading scripture together.  Discovery Bible Study is designed to meet the spiritual needs of our participants by considering what the biblical text tells us about God and human beings. 

You'll find us in the nave on Thursdays.  All are welcome!

Planned Giving refers to a direction in your will to donate a gift from your estate to a charity or non-profit organization.  The gift can be cash, property, securities, or a percentage of your estate and frequently has the benefit of reducing your estate's tax liability.  This is a good opportunity to leave a legacy at no immediate cost to you.
