An article in the Spec on June 11 noted that a scam is on the rise.

Seniors are being targeted by someone using AI, claiming to be a grandchild and asking for help or money.

If you receive such an phone call or email, do not panic. Before you offer to help in any way, take your time to check through another family member to see if what the person on the phone is claiming is true.

• To recap, be aware of unsolicited or unexpected phone calls, Door To Door Sales, text, or email messages from individuals or institutions asking for information, money, or even asking you to reply in haste to an urgent request.
• Use the contact information from previous calls, exchanges or a secure email address to confirm the authenticity of an unsolicited call.
• Do not provide personal, or sensitive information about yourself until you are certain of a person’s identity and their authority to have the information, and stay safe!
