Alongside Hope

Alongside Hope

Living into God's Dream

During this season of Lent, Alongside Hope offers a guide for daily reflections, Living into God's Dream by Jonathan Rowe.  For this week, consider what Jonathan Rowe writes on page 59 of Living into God's Dream.

*Sabbath and Silence:

In a culture that values productivity, Holy Saturday feels foreign. We’re drawn to move past it, to hurry through grief and uncertainty to reach the promise of resurrection. But this day asks us to remain present, to hold space for loss, and to embrace the awkwardness of the in-between. Here, in the stillness, we remember that God is present even in silence. The waiting of Holy Saturday teaches us to trust that God is at work even when we cannot see or feel it. Resurrection comes not by our own efforts but through God’s own love and power, unfolding in God’s perfect time.

Vote for the Future

Vote for the Future

April's Action for Climate Justice Cathedral

Since 1970, April 22 has marked the anniversary and the birth of the modern environmental movement called EARTH DAY! But each year, our environmental challenges are worsening!

Canadians have a powerful opportunity (and a civic duty) to shape Canada’s environmental future by staying informed about the climate policies of our political parties, and voting in the federal election on April 28!

But I'm just one person, you say, does my vote really matter?

Yes, it matters. Now more than ever!

Council for Churches-2025 Federal Election Guide.

The Canadian Council of Churches is pleased to release the 2025 Federal Election Guide.  While issues such as relations with the United States and affordability dominate the ballot, it is important to be reminded of the justice issues that Canadian churches have been addressing together. May the call for “elbows up” be complemented by a determination to link arms in solidarity. As we discern the path ahead for Canada and vote accordingly, may we practise deep listening and empathy with all people in Canada.
