Thanksgiving Letter from Dean Tim

Dear friends in Christ

Due to the current postal disruption, my letter this year may reach you by email, instead of my customary and prefered personal letter. It is nevertheless sent from a greatful heart.

One of the many gifts our Priest Associate Monica Romig Green brings to our life is her training and experience in how we grow spiritually – or perhaps more correctly, how the Holy Spirit grows us into the best versions of ourselves. To this end, she has co-authored a resource on our relationship with money called No Strings. I am delighted that Dale Guenter has offered to facilitate a discussion on the booklet later in the year. Suffice to say, most of us have a complicated relationship with money, where often it can seem as if the tail is wagging the dog. One of the reasons I am so thankful that God has called you and me together at Christ’s Church Cathedral is that you as a community are teaching me the meaning of generosity. It is one of the hallmarks of our life together. What you model for me is that my relationship with money can become less complicated and more free, less restrictive and more expansive, less life-denying and more life-giving, as the Holy Spirit through our life together helps me to share more – that we can enjoy God more and worry about money less as we practise being generous with the abundance with which God has blessed us.

Harvest Thanksgiving is a time in the church calendar when we thank and praise God for the extraordinary bounty of the fruit of the earth here in Niagara, for the exquisite beauty of our surroundings and for God’s overwhelming generosity towards us. Here in Southern Ontario and at the Cathedral in particular, we have so much for which to be grateful.

You will have preferred ways of expressing your gratitude to God. May I encourage you as an expression of your thankfulness to consider a gift to the mission and ministry of our beloved Cathedral. By so doing, you are giving to God through supporting our life together. Not only does our sharing benefit our relationship with God and with money; it makes a significant difference in the ministry God empowers us to extend here at 252 James North. There are Harvest Thanksgiving envelopes available at the Greeters desk. You may also like to visit our giving pages here.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all the ways in which you already contribute to the outworking of God’s reign of peace and justice for all people through us.
A blessed and fruitful Harvest Thanksgiving to you all.

Tim +

The Very Rev. Dr. Tim Dobbin. Rector, and Dean of Niagara
