REQUEST FROM YOUR GENEROSITY TEAM
We love our neighbours as God loves us. Very soon there will be a model “tiny shelter” in Bishopsgate for the community to see. By hosting this unoccupied model (during February and March only), we’re helping to publicize an important response to the housing crisis: the plan of HATS (Hamilton Alliance for Tiny Shelters) to use the grounds of the John A. MacDonald School for several “tiny shelters” for emergency temporary housing. Inside the Cathedral, our Warming and Resting Centre offers warmth and dignity. We await news any day now about the resumption of in-person worship in the beautiful historic space we love. Meanwhile, our Cathedral Chat of the month invites reflection, prayer, and action on fundamentals of racial justice. These are just some visible parts of our Cathedral’s ministry to make a difference of love and healing in a broken world. This is the difference your generosity makes in extending Christian hospitality and compassion. Thank you! And now for the request: please take time now to reflect on your own personal story of generosity (below). Use these short questions to reflect on God’s abundance, your own gratitude, your own spiritual foundations, your gifts and understanding of Christian hospitality. And decide what you will commit to the Cathedral’s many vital ministries in the coming year. |

FREEDOM SUNDAY
The Anglican Church of Canada, has designated February 20, 2022 as Freedom Sunday (the Sunday closest to National Human Trafficking Awareness Day held annually on February 22) to shine a light on the connections between human trafficking, labour exploitation, and missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and 2SLGBTQAAI persons. Human trafficking is the recruitment or movement of a person by deception or coercion for the purpose of exploitation. People are bought and sold for sexual exploitation, forced labour, street crime, domestic servitude, or even the sale of organs and human sacrifice. Our liturgy for Epiphany Seven includes some of the resources offered by the Anglican Church of Canada. |

BISHOP'S LENTEN BOOKS
This year, Bishop Susan Bell has once again chosen to recommend two books for study during the season of Lent: Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World by Katharine Hayhoe and A Spirituality of Fundraising by Henri Nouwen. "My two choices for Lenten books are my attempt to redirect our attention to some other deep concerns," says Bishop Susan Bell. "Not that the pandemic is over or not important – but that we must begin to live with its rhythms - and other things must now regain their importance in our hearts and minds." Please click on the picture above for more details. Both books are available through online book suppliers. |

WHY BELIEVE?
Why Believe? is a new and exciting five-week course for youth across the diocese. It is not your typical confirmation class, but rather an invitation for youth who are curious or interested in exploring Christianity, the Anglican Church, sacraments, and confirmation. The five-week Zoom gatherings will feature guest speakers, including Bishop Susan. Led by Sarah Bird, youth will have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, learn how the Holy Spirit works within our daily lives, and connect with new people. The process of this course does lead to confirmation; however, there is always the choice. Why Believe? is also being offered in-person, as permitted, on April 3, 10, 14-15, 24 at St. John, Ancaster. |
