CAMPAIGN PLANNING SET TO BEGIN

Monday marks the launch of our planning study and Bishop Susan Bell is asking for your help. In the coming weeks, we’ll be canvassing people across the diocese about what you believe are most important priorities for our ministries, where you see the Spirit leading our diocese, and to gauge support for a major parish-focused fundraising campaign.

The primary focus for this campaign will be to resource parishes and missions to support their Mission Action Plan (MAP) initiatives.

In addition, we are also hoping to support several other major projects and initiatives, including:

• creating an endowment to provide ongoing funds for lay and ordained missional leadership, including support for curacy positions and church planters;

• fostering Indigenous healing and reconciliation initiatives; and

• equipping our shared ministries facilitated through St. Matthew’s House, Canterbury Hills, and Christ's Church Cathedral.

The goal of the proposed campaign is to lift up the ministry of our parishes and missions and to resource these vitally important ministries, which serve as the face and hands of Christ in our community.

The planning study will include personal interviews, a mail and online survey, and a series of town halls and listening sessions. We’re looking forward to hearing your valuable opinions.

A WORD FROM THE CLIMATE JUSTICE CATHEDRAL COMMITTEE

A WORD FROM THE CLIMATE JUSTICE CATHEDRAL COMMITTEE

Each Step Counts!
Simple Monthly Actions* from the Climate Justice Cathedral Committee

October's Action:

Rearrange your fridge! Put your veggies and fruit in the door and front shelves, and your condiments in the drawers.

Why?: Food waste accounts for 8-10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, and half of that is from households. By making your fruit and veggies more visible, we can keep better tabs on what we're buying and using and cut down on food waste.

Impact?: Cutting your food waste can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 300 kilograms of CO2e per year!

NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

For more than three decades, the Anglican Church of Canada has been on a journey of listening, truth-telling, repentance and healing with Indigenous Peoples, both within and outside the church. There is an urgent need for further healing and justice-seeking across the land, and we all have a role to play. By wearing an orange shirt on September 30th, we commit to the enduring truth that EVERY CHILD MATTERS, every day and everywhere.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENEROSITY TEAM

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENEROSITY TEAM

TAP DEVICE

In an effort to provide an easy and efficient way for visitors to give to the life of our community, the Generosity Team has installed a “Tap” device at the back of the church near the baptismal font.  Matthew Green worked with the team to design a banner to draw visitors attention to this option.  The banner depicts snap shots of our collective life together.  Each “tap” provides a $5.00 donation to the Cathedral, minus an administrative fee of approximately 5%.  During Art Crawls and other open Cathedral events, we will also continue to provide donation boxes strategically placed throughout the Cathedral if visitors wish to donate by way of cash.  While we anticipate that Tap will be used primarily during open Cathedral events, it is available at all times for anyone who is visiting us, including during any of our service times.

DIGGING DEEPER ANGLICANISM 101

DIGGING DEEPER ANGLICANISM 101

Anglicanism is rich with symbolism and history, but even if you've been Anglican for years, you might not know why we do all the things we do.

This series of talks is aimed at explaining the basic structure of the liturgy, some simple Anglican history (if there is such a thing), and a little about the structure and culture of the church.
We've scheduled four sessions, but if you can't make it to all of them, drop in when you can. And if we end up with so many questions and discussion that we run more than four, so much the better!
We'll meet in the Spence Room after the second service (around 12:15pm). You're welcome if you don't know anything, and you're welcome if you know almost everything.

(I could certainly still learn more from some of you!)

THANK YOU SARAH!

With great sadness, the cathedral choir bids farewell today, after many years, to our soprano section lead, Sarah McPherson. Sarah’s contribution to the choir has been nothing short of outstanding. Not only her beautiful voice and first-class musicality, but also and her reliability and commitment have been a tremendous asset and will be sorely missed. We wish you well, Sarah, and look forward to any occasions when you may be able to visit us again in the future.
