Lenten Program

Lenten Program

Walking Through the Catechumenate

“The Lord’s Prayer” - Wed, March 19. Rev. Monica Green - All Saints Church, Hamilton
7-9pm. Refreshments provided.

Lent began on March 5 this year. This is a 40 day season (not including Sundays) in which Christians reflect and intentionally prepare for the celebrations of Easter.

Each week, a different clergy member will present on an aspect of the Catechumenate, the ancient process of preparing people journeying towards faith in Christ. By exploring this ancient training, we will be invited to grow deeper in our own faith by reclaiming and practicing some foundational embodied practices and principles. Each session will include a time of shared prayer, teaching, and an opportunity to get to know other Anglicans worshiping and ministering in our city.

All programs are 7pm - 9pm unless otherwise noted.

  • Mar 12:  Invitation to a Holy Lent, presented by The Rev. Andrew Rampton, hosted by Christ's Church Cathedral, 252 James St. N, Hamilton, ON
  • Mar 19:  The Lord’s Prayer, presented by The Very Rev. Tim Dobbin and The Rev. Monica Green, hosted by All Saints Church, 301 King Street W, Hamilton, ON
  • Mar 26:  The Apostle’s Creed, presented by Dr. Peter Widicombe, hosted by Church of the Nativity, 1831 King St E, Hamilton ON
  • Apr 2:  Prayer, presented by The Rev. Canon Mike Deed, hosted by St. John the Evangelist, 320 Charlton Ave W, Hamilton ON
  • Apr 12 from 10am to 12pm:  Baptism, presented by The Rev. Canon Matthew Griffin, hosted by Church of the Ascension, 64 Forest Ave, Hamilton ON

At the end of this Lenten journey, all five churches will worship together at the Easter Vigil at Christ’s Church Cathedral on Saturday, April 19 from 9 PM to 11 PM.

Rides to the other locations can be arranged. Please email the Cathedral Office to request travel assistance.

How We Learn to be Brave

It is not too late to sign up!
In a time of chaos and uncertainty, the one thing that we all need is hope. As these are the times in which we find ourselves, hope can be elusive. But the words of mercy and compassion of which Bishop Mariann Budde spoke at the inauguration of the American President have echoed across the world.

This Lent, the Rev. Christopher White will be leading a book study on Bishop Budde’s book How We Learn to be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith. Held on Zoom on Wednesdays from 4:00pm-5:30pm, during Lent, through April 9.

Given the current popularity of the book , it can be challenging to find a copy, except through an e-reader. Because of that Christopher will provide a highlights page and questions to ponder each week.

You will need to register to obtain a ZOOM link for this course.
To register, please email Karen, at our Parish Office, or email Christopher.

The Zoom link will be sent out prior to the first gathering.

Important Words from Our Bishop and New Priest Team

Important Words from Our Bishop and New Priest Team

On February 23, our Vestry Sunday, Bishop Susan announced that Monica will be staying with us as our half-time Priest Associate.  What a blessing!

On the same day,  Monica and Tim delivered a creative and inspirational homily "dialogue" about their work together and their vision for our church.  This is an important message for all of us to hear. You can jump right to the homily with this link.

It is God's generosity that has brought us to this beautiful moment in our journey, and although the parishioner gifts for this new chapter are still not in place, we are moving forward in faith that each of us will discover our own way of participating generously in this work of love.

Intention forms can be easily found at the back of the Cathedral or by following this link.

Thank you!

The Litany of Reconciliation

The Litany of Reconciliation

Friday 12:15pm

As a member of the Community of the Cross of Nails, we gather weekly at noon on Fridays to pray for peace, justice, and reconciliation.   We start our prayer with:

We stand together at this Friday noon hour to join with all those churches, schools, and other institutions who have committed themselves to the Community of the Cross of Nails. We search for reconciliation between ourselves and all those who have been harmed by war, by violence, by the effects of colonization and abuses of power, and by greed, selfishness, thoughtlessness and indifference.

Please click on Litany of Reconciliation for the prayer in its entirety.

A brief history of  the Litany of Reconciliation can be found on The Anglican Diocese of Ontario website.

Alongside Hope

Daily Reflections during Lent-Living Into God's Dream

During this season of Lent, Alongside Hope offers a guide for daily reflections called, Living into God's Dream by the Rev. Jonathan Rowe.  In the introduction on page 3,  Suzanne Rumsey,  PWRDF Public Engagement Coordinator, writes:
"Together with scripture, reflection and questions, prayer and partner stories, Jonathan has woven a resource that invites the reader to consider how the design that emerges attracts us, challenges our assumptions, and invites us to grow and change.  As he writes, “God’s Dream is not distant or passive but intimately woven into our lives and the world."

March 14 - Peace, Justice, and Strong institutions
*God of peace and justice, you dream of a world where swords are turned into ploughshares and nations learn war no more. Help us to be instruments of your peace, actively working to transform conflict into cooperation and division into unity. May your justice flow like a river, renewing the earth and bringing hope to all people.  Guide us to build strong communities and institutions that uphold your vision of reconciliation and peace.  Through Christ, the Prince of Peace, we pray.  Amen.

Lent’s forty days can be a time to shed distractions, and to focus on what truly matters in our lives.
* The prayer above is found on page 15 of Rev. Jonathan Rowe's guide, Living into God's Dream.

Action is the Antidote to Despair

Action is the Antidote to Despair

March's Action from Climate Justice Cathedral

It is easy to be overwhelmed by despair and fear in the world today. Current events can steal our hope and cause us to doubt that there is a good future ahead. But God has plans for us that are of a good future with hope!

Julian of Norwich’s simple words offer hope and encourage positivity today. Her book, Revelations of Divine Love, is the earliest surviving example of its kind – a book written between the 14th & 15th century in English, by a woman. She is renowned for her words, “all shall be well, all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.”

Action is the antidote to despair. This month, remember our Baptismal Promise and the Fifth Mark of Mission: strive to safeguard the integrity of God’s creation, and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth.

Narrative Budget

Every year, just prior to our annual vestry meeting, we publish a narrative budget - our story of the year gone by.  The story of our ministries, our stewardship of all our resources, and the generosity of what we give and receive.

We invite you to  read our 2024 Narrative Budget.

2024 Annual Vestry Report

2024 Annual Vestry Report

The Cathedral's annual vestry meeting on February 23, 2025 was well attended and by all accounts, it was a successful presentation of  how the Cathedral conducted its ministries in 2024 and how the Cathedral exercised stewardship over its finances - it's always a fine line!

We are pleased to continue to provide you with the Cathedral's Annual Report.  The annual report includes the following:

  • Financial statements for 2024, pages 10 to 19
  • The Cathedral's approved budget for 2025, pages 20 to 24
  • Parish Reports, pages 31 to 62.  Those 32 pages are a testament to the vibracy of the Cathedral, the commitment of so many volunteers, and the impact we have on our parishioners, friends, neighbours, partners, and guests.
  • And there's much more.

Our eternal thanks to so many who supported the Cathedral in so many ways in 2024!  May God bless you all.
