‘Ignatian ecological examen’

  1. I give thanks to God for creation and for being wonderfully made.Where did I feel God’s presence in creation today?
  2. I ask for the grace to see creation as God does – in all its splendor and suffering. Do I see the beauty of creation and hear the cries of the earth and the poor?
  3. I ask for the grace to look closely to see how my life choices impact creation and the poor and vulnerable. What challenges or joys do I experience as I recall my care for creation? How can I turn away from a throwaway culture and instead stand in solidarity with creation and the poor?
  4. I ask for the grace of conversion towards ecological justice and reconciliation. Where have I fallen short in caring for creation and my brothers and sisters? How do I ask for a conversion of heart?
  5. I ask for the grace to reconcile my relationship with God, creation and humanity, and to stand in solidarity through my actions. How can I repair my relationship with creation and make choices consistent with my desire for reconciliation with creation?
  6. I offer a closing prayer for the earth and the vulnerable in our
    society.

Faith In the Future

This November marks the 150th Synod of the Diocese of Niagara. To celebrate our diocesan sesquicentennial, Bishop Susan Bell is hosting a special anniversary dinner at the Burlington Convention Centre!

Join us on November 2, 2024, for dinner and enjoy a conversation between Bishop Susan and her special guest Archbishop Linda Nicholls, the 14th primate for the Anglican Church of Canada. This discussion will be reflective and discerning as they explore the Synod's theme 'Faith in the Future'.
A pre-dinner reception will start at 5:00 pm; with the dinner beginning at 6:30pm.

Tickets for the evening are $150 each; all proceeds will go to a special anniversary fund created by our diocesan foundation in support of curacy placements for new priests in our diocese. We ask that this event be shared in your upcoming bulletins and church communications, as all are welcome to attend.

“We give thanks to God for her provision over the years at the same time as we look forward to the next 150 years with hope and optimism,” says the bishop. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

Volunteer Cooks and Assistants Needed

Volunteer Cooks and Assistants Needed

Helping those in need over Christmastide.

Wonderful Volunteers are needed to help out on Christmas Day for our Christmas Dinner,  an  opportunity to help those that desperately need food, kindness, and support during what would be a lonely, helpless time. The volume of guest this year will require us to have two meal sittings, and this will require an increase in the number of helpers required.  If you can help us to cook or serve on Christmas Day, please contact Richard Cunningham at countertenor.rc@gmail.com for more details.

If you are unable to help on the day contact Richard to see if you can assist with monetary gifts or other appropriate gift items. More details coming soon.

How about assisting by cooking meals to fill our freezer!

Pre-cooked meals are desperately needed to be given to parishioners in need over the cold Winter months. Do you know of anyone coming out of hospital that may need these meals or a family member going through trying circumstances? We would like to have a crew of four or five people to cook a large selection of meals which can be frozen and put aside for these kinds of situations.  Cooks required on Wednesday evenings from 4pm until around 8pm. Please contact Richard Cunningham at countertenor.rc@gmail.com for further details.
He will be delighted to hear from you!

Climate Justice Cathedral October's Action Steps

Climate Justice Cathedral October's Action Steps

Simple Monthly Actions from Climate Justice Cathedral (CJC)

Every Step Counts!
October's Action:
Rearrange your fridge! Put your veggies and fruit in the door and front shelves, and your condiments in the drawers.
Why?  Food waste accounts for 8-10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, and half of that is from households. By making your fruit and veggies more visible, we can keep better tabs on what we're buying and using and cut down on food waste.
Impact? Cutting your food waste can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 300 kilograms of CO2e per year!

A Stunning Addition To Bishopsgate

A Stunning Addition To Bishopsgate

If you've visited Bishopsgate (the Cathedral's forecourt on James St N) recently, you will surely have noticed a new addition to our beautiful gardens. We are thrilled to welcome Tim Schmalz's life-sized sculpture Be Welcoming as a powerful and permanent reminder that each one of us has the vocation and capacity to be an angel for others on our journey through life. Be Welcoming was created in 2019, inspired by a verse from Chapter 13 of the Letter to the Hebrews: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Tim Schmalz's work is known and installed worldwide, including at the Vatican in Rome.  You may have seen another of his pieces, Homeless Jesus, outside St. Patrick's Church at the corner of King and Victoria in downtown Hamilton. More information about Tim Schmalz and his work is available on his website at  https://www.sculpturebytps.com/. The Cathedral was able to acquire this sculpture through the generosity of Vera Tomlinson, aunt of parishioner Barbara Jepson, who endowed a fund for the maintenance of Bishopsgate as part of her estate planning. A service of blessing and dedication is being planned. Visit our Cathedral website for more details here.

From The Generosity Team

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

On Wednesday, your Generosity Team, Corporation and Clergy made calls to all who have donated to Christ’s Church Cathedral this year. We were not calling to ask for more money, but simply to say thank you for your generosity and dedication to the ministries of our beloved Cathedral.

We wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you because we don’t say it enough. We never want our donors to feel that we do not appreciate you. We are so thankful for each and every one of you.

In this season of Thanksgiving, the Generosity Team is very thankful for all those who faithfully give to Christ’s Church Cathedral. Your generosity is a blessing to many.

If you did not get a call, it is likely because we do not have your phone number in our database or the one we have is no longer in service. Please be sure to give the office a call and let us know your numbers so we can update our records.
