Mothering Sunday has been a special day in the Christian Church calendar since the 16th century. On the fourth Sunday of Lent people were given time off to visit their mother churches and their mothers and families. Even in the midst of Lenten fasting Simnel Cake was baked with white wheat flour (simila) and lots of fruit and spices.
We observe these traditions at Christ's Church Cathedral in part because we are the "mother church" of the Anglican Diocese of Niagara, to which other members of our diocesan family come for confirmations, ordinations and other special occasions.
The women of the congregation will be given a flower at the conclusion of the service, and those in attendance will have the opportunity to sample Simnel Cake, the traditional sweet treat for this day.

Each week, a different clergy member will present on an aspect of the Catechumenate, the ancient process of preparing people journeying towards faith in Christ. By exploring this ancient training, we will be invited to grow deeper in our own faith by reclaiming and practicing some foundational embodied practices and principles. Each session will include a time of shared prayer, teaching, and an opportunity to get to know other Anglicans worshiping and ministering in our city.

 All programs are 7pm - 9pm unless otherwise noted.

At the end of this Lenten journey, all five churches will worship together at the Easter Vigil at Christ’s Church Cathedral on Saturday, April 19 from 9 PM to 11 PM.

During this season of Lent, Alongside Hope offers a guide for daily reflections called, Living into God's Dream. 

As we look forward to the week ahead, our reflections will center on the theme of Loving Kindness, exploring how acts of compassion, care, and justice reflect God’s Dream of humanity.

Since 1970, April 22 has marked the anniversary and the birth of the modern environmental movement called EARTH DAY! But each year, our environmental challenges are worsening!

Canadians have a powerful opportunity (and a civic duty) to shape Canada’s environmental future by staying informed about the climate policies of our political parties, and voting in the federal election on April 28!

But I'm just one person, you say, does my vote really matter?

Yes, it matters. Now more than ever!

Bishop Susan has announced that Monica will be staying with us as our half-time Priest Associate.  What a blessing!

It is God's generosity that has brought us to this beautiful moment in our journey, and although the parishioner gifts for this new chapter are still not in place, we are moving forward in faith that each of us will discover our own way of participating generously in this work of love.
