Pre-Vestry Feb 16 and Annual Vestry Feb 23

Mark Your Calendar-Note Change of Date

The Corporation of Christ's Church Cathedral will be hosting a Parish Council meeting and Pre-Vestry meeting on Sunday, February 16, 2025 following the 10:30 service to give parishioners an opportunity to ask about the 2025 budget and discuss matters on our Mission Action Plan.  We look forward to your insights and questions.

The 2025 Annual Vestry Meeting will take place on Sunday, February 23 immediately following the 10:30am service.  At annual vestry meetings, financial statements for the previous year are received, church wardens, lay representatives, and parish council members are elected and/or appointed, a budget for the coming year is often passed, and any other business connected with the temporalities of the parish is transacted.

Please note that the Certified List of Vestry Members is displayed in a white folder at the back of Christ's Church Cathedral from January 19, 2025 until February 23, 2025.  If a person's name does not appear on the roll, that person may appeal to the Certification Committee by email no later than 72 hours before the time of the opening of the Vestry meeting to have their name considered and added to the Certified List of Vestry Members.

Christ's Church Cathedral Doors

Our central Cathedral main doors are being restored.
They will need to be in the workshop for about 2 months.
In the interim, the South doors will be used as the primary set of doors to access the Cathedral.
We hope that the project will be complete in advance of Holy Week.
It’s great to see this project get underway!

2025 Intention Forms

We continue to be excited about the possibility of Monica staying with us half time as priest-associate after her curacy is complete in February.
Thank you to the 1/3 of households who have made their 2025 giving intentions known already. The numbers are very encouraging. However, we would like so much to hear from the remaining 2/3 of households who have not submitted an intention from. Please do this as soon as you are able so that we can plan with a realistic idea of overall parishioner giving for 2025 and beyond.
2025 Intention forms can be easily found by following this link: https://cathedralhamilton.ca/pages/pre-authorized-giving
These Intention Forms are also available on the literature rack in the narthex.  If you would like to declare your intention to increase your givings in 2025, please complete the form online, or on paper form and drop it in the offering plate.
Alternatively you can deliver it to the Parish Office for the attention of "Paula Esteves".
We are so  thankful for the generosity in our wonderful Cathedral family!

Community Engagement Through the Gift of Art - Wednesday, February 12, 2025

All are invited to attend this Cathedral Chat, focused on Community Engagement through the gift of Art. We have a dynamic panel including a photographer, a poet, and a singer/song writer. Come hear and see how their art was developed and how they have used their art to engage others.

Jessie Golem is an entrepreneur, professional writer, photographer, pianist, and activist. In 2018 Jessie used her skills in photography to produce a photo series called Humans of Basic Income that amplifies the stories of the recipients of the prematurely cancelled Basic Income Pilot Project in Ontario. Her photos have been exhibited across Canada and the world.  Jessie is also an accomplished classical pianist.  More info is available on Jesse's website.

Since the emergence of his first collection in 1982, John Terpstra has gained recognition as a poet and author of great precision, compassion, and attentiveness. With a fascination for geology, family, heritage, community and faith, he has trained his eye variously on his Hamilton neighbourhood, his Dutch background, the joys and peculiarities of marriage and parenting, as well as on issues of environmental degradation, local economy, security, society and questions of hope.  More info is available on John Terpstra's website.

Tom Wilson tehohåhake (two roads) is a Canadian musician, songwriter, famed storyteller and visual artist. His recent published memoir, Beautiful Scars, has become a national bestseller.  In his memoir, Wilson reveals the impact of discovering his indigenous heritage. Musically, Wilson is a Juno Award winner and known for his work with Blackie & The Rodeo Kings and Lee Harvey Osmond.  More info is available on Tom Wilson tehohåhake's website.

Q&A to follow along with refreshments.

Event will also be livestreamed on the Cathedral's YouTube page.

February's Action from Climate Justice Cathedral

As part of our baptismal covenant, we are asked with God’s help to “strive to safeguard the integrity of God’s creation, and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth”

Ontarians will be going to the polls on Feb 27th. Scientists tell us the world’s major economies only have until 2030 to cut emissions in half from 2005 levels to avoid the most catastrophic impact of climate change in our lifetime.

We will not all agree on the best way forward but we need to pay attention to the campaign, listen to different points of view, and cast our ballots on Feb 27.

The Litany of Reconciliation

The Litany of Reconciliation

Friday 12:15pm

As a member of the Community of the Cross of Nails, we gather weekly at noon on Fridays to pray for peace, justice, and reconciliation.   We start our prayer with:

We stand together at this Friday noon hour to join with all those churches, schools, and other institutions who have committed themselves to the Community of the Cross of Nails. We search for reconciliation between ourselves and all those who have been harmed by war, by violence, by the effects of colonization and abuses of power, and by greed, selfishness, thoughtlessness and indifference.

Please click on Litany of Reconciliation for the prayer in its entirety.

A brief history of  the Litany of Reconciliation can be found on The Anglican Diocese of Ontario website.
