Every Step Counts! - September's ActionSimple Monthly Actions from Climate Justice Cathedral Join with Christians around the world to give particular attention to praying and caring for God’s creation as part of the global Season of Creation observed from September 1 to October 4 every year. Season Of Creation 2024 A celebration of “Creation as the created world” that God gifted us, and a celebration of “Creation as foundational mystery” of our Christian faith—a moment to thank and praise God as Creator. Season of Creation 2024 Prayer - We ask you to pray this prayer every day Triune God, Creator of all, we praise you for your goodness, visible in all the diversity that you have created, making us a cosmic family living in a common home. Through the Earth you created, we experience love and nourishment, home and protection. We confess that we do not relate to the Earth as a Mothering gift from you, our Creator. Our selfishness, greed, neglect, and abuse have caused the climate crisis, loss of biodiversity, human suffering as well as the suffering of all our fellow creatures. We confess that we have failed to listen to the groans of the Earth, the groans of all creatures, and the groans of the Spirit of hope and justice that lives within us. May your Creator Spirit help us in our weakness, so that we may know the redeeming power of Christ and the hope found in him. May the groans of the Spirit birth in us a willingness to serve you faithfully, so that we may hear and heal Creation, to hope and act together with her, so that the first fruits of hope may blossom. Loving and Creator God, we pray that you will make us sensitive to these groans and enable us to have the same compassion as that of Jesus, the redeeming Lord. Grant us a fresh vision of our relationship with Earth, and with one another, as creatures that are made in your image. In the name of the one who came to proclaim the good news to all Creation, Jesus Christ. Amen. |
Birds Of The Cathedral Exhibit
Have you ever wondered why there are images of doves, eagles, pelicans, swallows and peacocks in the windows and wooden and stone carvings of the Cathedral? If you want to know, visit the exhibit of photos in the north-west corner of the cathedral from August 18 to September 8. You can find answers, and also see photos of some of the images in the Cathedral and of those species in nature. The exhibit has been compiled by Sandy Darling, a member of the congregation, a birder and author of the Visual Guide to Christ’s Church Cathedral (on sale for $10.00). |

Housing CrisisWill you help in the call to action to advocate for housing and support for mental health? Tell the Government of Ontario to step up and help our cities solve the humanitarian crisis. Ontario’s cities, including Hamilton, cannot solve it alone. Solve the Crisis Project has been started by the Big City Mayors of Ontario as this humanitarian crisis continues to grow because of inadequate programs and support for those with addictions and mental health issues, and a lack of housing options for people in vulnerable situations. Like us, the Big City Mayors are concerned about homelessness and encampments and believe their government needs to do something about it. Follow this link to a website to submit your letter, which you can personalize. ________________________________________________ The Church of St John the Evangelist (Locke and Charlton W) is hosting a ‘Special Evening of Learning and Brainstorming’ this coming Friday September 6, entitled: Hamilton’s Housing Crisis: Panelists include Graham Cubitt (Indwell), Jessica Brand (Indwell), and Dan Panagakos (HATS). Potluck Supper at 6:00pm, Presentations at 7:00pm. 320 Charlton Avenune West in the Activity Centre Gym. |
