In the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada we pray for the Anglican Bishop Lydia Mamakwa, Bishop Larry Beardy, Bishop Morris Fidler, and the clergy and people of the Spiritual Ministry of Mishamikoweesh. We pray for the Dean, Council, and Congregations of the Southern Area of the Lutheran Synod of Alberta and the Territories.

In our Diocese of Niagara we pray for our Bishop Susan Bell currently on sabbatical,  and her commissary, Archbishop Colin Johnson; the Reverend Aaron Orear, St Alban the Martyr in Glen Williams, and the people of that parish.

As a Community we pray for those suffering from psychiatric, emotional and behavioural disorders.

From Sunday June 30 until Sunday September 1 inclusive, there will be just one Sunday morning Service at 10:00am. The Wednesday 11:30am Eucharist will continue through the summer months. Morning Prayer on Tuesday, Wednesday (Zoom) and Thursday will run until July 11, then break and resume on August 20. Digging Deeper will take a break from June 23 until the end of September inclusive.

Dean Tim is currently away on annual leave. We thank the Reverend Canon J. Lefebvre for presiding and the Reverend Monica Romig Green for preaching today. We are grateful to Bruce Cross for kindly agreeing to cover as our organist while Bruce Burbidge was away on vacation. Welcome back Bruce!

Our doors are open every Sunday through July and August for anyone to drop in for peace and reflection in the middle of our busy city.  Feel free to light a candle, say a prayer, or just sit quietly in this beautiful space. Maybe you have never been in the Cathedral and just want to have a look around? Maybe you would just like to listen to some quiet, peaceful music? Whoever you are, whatever brings you to our doors, you are very welcome. In case you have any questions while you are visiting, there is someone on hand from our community.
For level access please go to the reception door to the left of the main Cathedral entrances. 

In July we would like all to keep Cathedral Cafe in your prayers and help support with home baking and treats. A good option is to pick up a big box of granola bars at COSTCO while you are there. There is a blue box of 64 that they buy for the Cafe ( less than $15). You are also encouraged to pick up frozen juices, orange juice, punches – not lemonade – so that there is more choice for the guests in the hot summer. Art Crawl is a wonderful way to engage with the community and to celebrate our beautiful Cathedral!  Join us in the community and in the Cathedral every 2nd Friday of the month, 7pm-10pm.
We offer the beauty of our space to those who wish to take a moment of reflection or prayer.  We also provide guided tours and often there are musical performances and art installations.  

The Summer 2024 edition of CONTACT is now available in print at the back of the Church and online on the  Cathedral website. Heartfelt thanks go to Sally Braun-Jackson, Sue Crowe Connolly, and to all who have contributed to this beautiful production. 

The Good Shepherd helps families experiencing homelessness. They are sending 30 of their kids, living in shelter, to summer camp and they would like to pass on their grateful thanks to all those who have sent in water bottles and back packs. Thank you so much!

Simple Monthly Actions * 

During July and August Climate Justice Cathedral invites us to look at how we can live both sustainably and faithfully in our everyday lives. 

For each of the items below give yourself a 3 if you are doing it now, a 2 if you are working on it and then see if you can improve your total score over the summer.

Lighting: Energy efficient lighting has replaced incandescent bulbs in as many places as possible in the home

Water:  Where possible aerators on taps and low flow shower heads are installed to save water. Single use plastic bottles are not used.  Recycled water is used on plants.

Recycling: Everyone in the home understands the correct use of the blue, green and regular garbage bins. Reusable items are given to charity or offered to others for free.

Vehicle use:  Walking/cycling is the first choice of transportation.  Public transportation is used where available. Car trips are planned to reduce excess trips.

Heating & Cooling:  If it is possible to change thermostats aim for winter temperatures of 17°C (63°F) at night time or if you are out during the day; and 20°C (68°F) for day time as long as this is comfortable. Summer months: set your thermostat between 24°C/74°F and 26°C/78°F, depending on humidity.

Food:  As much as possible locally sourced foods/beverages are used. Ethically sourced coffee, tea, cocoa and sugar are bought from trusted organizations. One or two meatless meals are prepared weekly.

Gardens, Patios & Balconies: No pesticides are used.  Mulching and drip watering are practised.  Plants native to Ontario are bought.  If an ice preventer is purchased, it is an environmentally friendly one.

Kitchen:  Reusable napkins are used. Material cloths - not paper towels - are used for spills/drying, etc.  The microwave oven is used when possible, for heating single dishes.

Cleaning:  Phosphate and chlorine-free cleaning products are used for washing and cleaning. No harsh chemicals are used in the home -substitutes such as vinegar and baking soda are used instead.
