St Matthew's House : MY ART
This summer, we are launching an art program aimed at empowering 10 participants from our Cathedral Café community to share their own unique story through the powerful medium of art. This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals who have experienced homelessness, and your support can play a key role in bringing this vision to life. Art has the unique ability to transcend barriers and connect us on a deeply human level. For those who have faced the hardships of homelessness, the opportunity to create art provides not only a therapeutic outlet but also a platform to share their experiences with the world. Through this program, participants will have access to the materials, guidance, and space they need to create meaningful and impactful art pieces. Every piece of art tells a story and with your help, we can give these stories the platform they deserve! All funds raised will go towards bringing this program to life, including participant honoraria, as well as artist and publication fees for UNSHELTERED: the zine (a Hamilton-based community art project sharing the stories of folks experiencing gender-based homelessness). To donate, please click here or contact us at www.stmatthewshouse.ca. |

Fiercely Powerful: Celebrating PrideFiercely Loved: Arise ! On Sunday, June 9, Archbishop Colin Johnson presided at the 5th annual diocesan Pride celebration, Fiercely Loved: Arise. The Rainbow Kings and Queens — a local group of refugees who were forced to flee their countries from persecution of their LGBTIA+ indentities — opened the service with a Spirit-filled dance. The preacher for the service, Canon J Lefebvre, offered a compelling reflection on the Gospel, weaving together aspects of his personal journey, and bearing witness to the often difficult and painful journey of many in the LGBTIA+ community to be accepted and included within the Church. Wrapped in lively music, joyful proclamation, and an uplifting celebration of the Eucharist, a full cathedral celebrated Pride. If you missed the celebration, you can watch the service here. |

From the Generosity Team
What are your summer plans? Will you be working all summer, or have you been able to book time off work for a break? If you have time off, will you be travelling or remaining home for a “stay-cation”. Summer is a great season! Whether you spend time on your favourite city patio, relax at the cottage, or travel by car or plane … it can be a time of relaxation and rejuvenation. It is wonderful to be able to take a break from the regular workday grind and enjoy something different. While our routines tend to change over the summer, ministry continues at Christ’s Church Cathedral. Sunday services, Cathedral Café, pastoral care, and other events continue even though many parishioners are on vacation. Please help us avoid the “summer dip” in giving that many churches experience in July and August. While we may go on holiday, our parish does not! Please continue to your generous giving over the warmer months of the year. Pre-Authorized Giving (PAG) is a great way to make sure our gifts to the church continue all year long. Forms are available on the literature rack at the back of the church if you would like to set up your giving through this effective method. |

June's Climate ActionFrom Climate Justice Cathedral It’s time to SPEAK OUT about the CLIMATE CRISIS! A large majority of Canadians are worried about climate change and believe it is the reason for an increase in extreme weather, a new national poll suggests. But the Leger poll says only a small fraction of people listed climate change as the top issue facing Canada today! And only 40 per cent said they would make some changes to their behaviours "even if this comes with a certain financial cost." Canada needs many more people talking about the climate crisis but they often say: * too busy If you agree it’s serious but you’re reluctant to talk about climate effects such as wildfires, fossil fuels, or greenhouse gases, here’s how you can get past these roadblocks. Recall a time when you took a risk on a matter of principle. How did you feel before, during, and after the risk? What conditions made your risk-taking possible? Let’s speak up! Talk with friends, family, and colleagues. Start conversations with letters, emails, phone calls, and petitions to our community leaders, politicians, corporations. It need not be complicated. You simply need to say, “I’m really concerned about the climate crisis.” Then ask, “What can you/we/I be doing about it?” No one can do it alone but we can do it together. |
