Welcome!!
We are delighted to welcome Karen Carolan-Evans, who has just joined the Cathedral Staff Team as Parish Assistant. Karen writes: “I am equally delighted to be here ! “Having recently moved here from the UK, where I have worked for the past 25 years in providing comprehensive executive assistant and office management support for the Church of England (Canterbury Diocese) and the National Health Service, this new role will provide me with fresh opportunities to serve. “I am eager to use my existing skills to work with you all to maintain and enrich fruitful relationships and high quality of worship in spaces where God is encountered. I also make a jolly good cup of tea !! “My husband Stewart is the new Rector at St John’s Anglican Church Burlington, and we now live in Waterdown. “Thank you all for welcoming me so warmly.” |
Cathedral OasisAn Open Time for Peace and Reflection - Sunday May 19, 12:30-2:00pm Our doors are open one Sunday per month for anyone to drop in for peace and reflection in the middle of our busy city. Maybe you would just like to listen to some quiet, peaceful music? Whoever you are, whatever brings you to our doors, you are very welcome. In case you have any questions while you are visiting, there is someone on hand from our community. For level access please go to the reception door to the left of the main Cathedral entrances. Please contact Bruce Burbidge if you have any questions. |

Request for VolunteersFridays from May 24 The Layweeders are looking for new volunteers to assist with maintaining the Cathedral Gardens. We meet regularly in Bishopsgate on Friday mornings starting May 24. An evening group will start the same week depending upon interest. We have tools and gloves available to use. Tasks are generally light; weeding, dead heading etc. so we don’t demand a high level of skill. If you have a particular interest in roses for example we welcome your skills. Talk to Nancy Corman 905 522 8386 or Jeni Darling 905 689 7481 after the Sunday morning service or phone for further information. |

May's Climate Action - Plant Native SpeciesEvery Step Counts! Simple Monthly Actions from Climate Justice Cathedral If you have a garden or even just a plant or two outside or on a balcony, plant native species and think about replacing non-native plants and removing any invasive species. The internet has lots of information about native plants and invasive species and you can also talk to our own Bishopsgate gardeners. Why? Plants, animals, and insects depend on each other. Most insects will not eat non-native plants which means birds and other species lose a food source and biodiversity suffers. Even a single tree or shrub can offer a refuge – just remember to skip insecticides and other chemicals. Impact Without biodiversity our entire support system for human as well as animal life would collapse. Cleaner air and less pollution can reduce a number of health diseases and positive associations with nature can motivate us to make other changes to protect our planet, promoting happier and healthier lives. * Adapted from the CBC podcast "Ten Minutes to Save the Planet" and the UN's Actions for a Healthy Planet |
