ANGLICANS DO INDEED LOVE THEIR NEIGHBOURS

ANGLICANS DO INDEED LOVE THEIR NEIGHBOURS

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Anglicans from across Canada came together again this year to raise more than $360,000 for PWRDF partners and programs all around the globe.

Over 1,350 donors provided more than 3,100 gifts. This includes over $40,000 raised for PWRDF's Indigenous Responsive Program to support Indigenous communities in Canada through its responsive programs grant.

Once again, agricultural gifts were the most popular in 2021. Goats beat out chickens to claim the lead: 439 goats as compared with 416 chickens. PWRDF donors also gave funds to provide 65 donkeys to help families in Kenya carry clean water from the wells to their homes. Nearly $8,000 was raised to provide seeds to smallholder and women farmers in Bangladesh.

For some of the larger ticket items, parishes and groups teamed up to make a bigger impact. These joint efforts resulted in more than 100 whole farms being provided!

Anglicans in Canada also supported clean water this year, raising enough to provide five solar pump water wells and 40 hand pump wells through PWRDF’s Kenyan partner Utooni Development Organization (UDO).

Despite many churches being closed to worship through Advent and Christmas, and other impacts of COVID-19, PWRDF supporters came together to make this year’s fundraiser a great success, and helped PWRDF and its partners create a truly just, healthy, and peaceful world.

PWRDF’s World of Gifts is available all year long and can make great gifts for Easter, birthdays, anniversaries, and more.

CATHEDRAL CHAT

CATHEDRAL CHAT

Wednesday, February 16th at 7pm

What would it truly look like for the church to be anti-racist?

For our February Cathedral Chat, we will be joined by The Reverend Naomi Kabugi and Sarah Bird, two members of our diocesan anti-racism working group. Naomi and Sarah will talk with us about their group’s experiences and about how churches across our diocese might begin a similar process of intentional anti-racism work.

Through our discussion, we will talk about the relationship between the difficult work of anti-racism and our own baptismal covenant. Because as Naomi and Sarah will remind us: Doing the work of anti-racism is an expression of our Christian faith.

Please join us for what will prove to be a rich and important conversation.

We will livestream the event on our YouTube page at 7:00pm on Wednesday February 16. There will be a Q&A session following the conversation. Viewers of the livestream will be able to ask questions through the chat feature.

Members of our Cathedral parish are invited to participate in a time for reflection, sharing, and discussion via Zoom after the event at 8:15pm.

BISHOP'S LENTEN BOOKS

BISHOP'S LENTEN BOOKS

This year, Bishop Susan Bell has once again chosen to recommend two books for study during the season of Lent: Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World by Katharine Hayhoe and A Spirituality of Fundraising by Henri Nouwen.

"My two choices for Lenten books are my attempt to redirect our attention to some other deep concerns," says Bishop Susan Bell.  "Not that the pandemic is over or not important – but that we must begin to live with its rhythms - and other things must now regain their importance in our hearts and minds."

Please click on the picture above for more details.

Both books are available through online book suppliers.

WHY BELIEVE?

WHY BELIEVE?

Why Believe? is a new and exciting five-week course for youth across the diocese. It is not your typical confirmation class, but rather an invitation for youth who are curious or interested in exploring Christianity, the Anglican Church, sacraments, and confirmation.

The five-week Zoom gatherings will feature guest speakers, including Bishop Susan. Led by Sarah Bird, youth will have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, learn how the Holy Spirit works within our daily lives, and connect with new people. The process of this course does lead to confirmation; however, there is always the choice.

Why Believe? is also being offered in-person, as permitted, on April 3, 10, 14-15, 24 at St. John, Ancaster.
