Lenten Reminder: Boundaries and Consent
Lent is the perfect time for us to reconsider how loving one another looks in practical ways, especially regarding physical touch. Even the most seemingly benign kind of physical touch can be a powerful personal experience. Therefore, it is important to respect everyone’s boundaries and receive consent before touching another person. Don’t be afraid to ask if it is okay to first before hugging, touching, or even shaking hands. Also, don’t be afraid to say “no” for any reason if you do not feel comfortable being touched. Being mindful of one another’s boundaries is an excellent way to show our love for one another.

March's Climate Action - Save Energy at HomeFrom Climate Justice Cathedral - Every Step Counts! Switch to LED light bulbs, wash laundry in cold water, hang things to dry, take shorter showers, insulate your windows, weatherstrip your doors, adjust your thermostat so that you are heating or cooling the person instead of the room. When replacing appliances chose energy efficient ones and replace an oil or gas furnace with a heat pump. Log into your energy provider or look at your bill to learn about your monthly usage and changes over time. Why? If you rely on fossil fuels in any way but don’t have the means to get off it by installing a heat pump or solar panel you can still make a difference, save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy. Impact? Studies show that the energy supply sector accounts for 35% of global emissions, the largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions! When it comes to reducing the global average individual carbon footprint from 6.3 tons (2020) to 2.1 tons in 2030 as recommended by experts, home energy is a significant area of opportunity. Energy star appliances have achieved a 4 billion metric ton reduction in greenhouse gases and an electric heat pump can reduce your carbon footprint by an average of 900 kg of CO2/year. * Adapted from the CBC podcast "Ten Minutes to Save the Planet" and the UN's Actions for a Healthy Planet |
