GENEROSITY TEAMSowing Seeds – In Gardens and Ministry March 21 announces the beginning of spring. Yet in Canada we know that the spring equinox is a cruel hoax as winter will not loosen its grip for many weeks. By May, as the weather finally aligns with the season, our thoughts begin to settle on our gardens. Clean-up of winter debris done, we must decide what to plant. Will it be perennials or annuals? Will there be particular colour featured in our gardens this season? What about a vegetable garden? For those of us in apartments or condos, our gardens are in pots with herbs and hardy plants that can withstand balcony winds. The Bible is full of illustrations and lessons involving planting and sowing. Jesus spoke to his disciples of sowing spiritual seeds and gathering a spiritual harvest. In II Corinthians 9 Paul writes, The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. How can we sow bountifully so that the spiritual harvest will be bountiful? By giving our time, skills, energy and money to God’s work here at Christ’s Church Cathedral. |
